OFC 7-1 Clontarf

Oldbury FC vs Clontarf

Oldbury made it two wins from two in the FAI Junior Shield, with an emphatic win over AUL’s Clontarf FC, in an early Saturday morning kick off in the newly opened Sean Walsh Astro Pitch.

The opening 20 minutes saw the travelling side slightly on top and a well worked move from the right side saw them go 1-up.

However, on the half hour mark Oldbury hit Clontarf for two goals in two minutes; the first a lucky deflection off Clontarf’s centre back and then a Leigh Callery header – from a Keith Flynn free kick – which rattled the visitors.

Right before half time, a delicious cross from Aaron Delaney was met on the volley from Andy Nowlan just outside the 6-yard box, to put Oldbury firmly in the driving seat.

The second half saw the home team score 4 goals with no reply, including a well worked team goal with a stunning 25-yard finish from Tiarnan O’Hanlon, to seal an impressive 7-1 win. However, the victory was overshadowed by a late injury to Trevor Dunne which may see the keeper sidelined for the rest of the season.
